Artillery and mortars
This category includes cannons, horns and mortars used by the military.
Cannon - firearms with a caliber of at least 20 mm. The general name of artillery firearms regardless of their caliber.
The early guns had barrels, most often mounted in block cradles. Already in the 16th century, a double-walled bed was used, which survived with modifications until the 19th century.
The howitzer is a cannon with a caliber of about 75 mm and above, with a short barrel (10 to 30 caliber) and a low initial velocity of the projectile, intended mainly for high-speed firing. Mainly used to fire at targets hidden behind terrain obstacles. Thanks to the use of variable propellants, it is possible to change the steepness of the projectile path and the firing range at the same (constant) elevation angle.
