IBG 72577 Gotha Go 244B-1 1/72 – Plastic model kit of the German transport aircraft

The presented IBG 72577 set in 1/72 scale is a high-quality plastic model kit of the German Gotha Go 244B-1 transport aircraft. The B-1 version of this construction was equipped with two French Gnome-Rhône 14M engines, which significantly improved independent operational capabilities compared to the Go 242 glider. This model represents the most recognizable variant, which served in the Luftwaffe during World War II, mainly on the southern front – in North Africa, Greece, and the Balkans (years of service: 1942-1943, World War II).

Kit components and construction details:

  • Accurately reproduced fuselage, cargo compartment, and crew cockpit based on historical documentation.
  • Clear canopy and the option to choose the position of the loading ramp – open or closed, allowing for the creation of dynamic logistics and loading scenes on a diorama.
  • Exceptionally realistic surface panels, thin details created using modern IBG Models injection molding technology.
  • Complete set of decals featuring historical Luftwaffe markings, used by aircraft operating in Greece, the Balkans, and North Africa.
  • Model made from high-grade plastic, ensuring easy handling, excellent fit, and durability of the finished miniature.

Historical and modeling information:
The Gotha Go 244B-1 was developed as an improved version of the Go 242 transport glider, allowing for independent flight without the use of a tow plane. Aircraft of this series were used for cargo transport, equipment delivery (including light vehicles such as Kübelwagen), and evacuation of wounded personnel. They participated in the logistics of German forces fighting on the Mediterranean front and the challenging theater of North Africa. Production of the B-1 models was limited due to poor flight characteristics and susceptibility to enemy fire, making them a rarity today both among scale models and in historical literature.

We especially recommend this model to intermediate aircraft modelers interested in unique Luftwaffe designs, as well as to diorama builders focusing on World War II scenes. The finished model is a unique and rarely encountered item in the collection of military transport and aviation history enthusiasts.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
