The Garford-Putilov is the result of cooperation between Russian and American industry—the chassis was based on the Garford Motor Truck Co. truck imported from the USA. Final assembly and armoring were carried out at the Russian Putilov factory (today Kirov Plant). Only 48 units were built between 1915 and 1916, but the vehicle quickly found success on the Eastern Front of World War I and in the turbulent period of the Russian Civil War. Thanks to its heavy armor and extensive armament with a turret-mounted 76 mm cannon, this model became an important means of infantry support. Beyond Russian forces, the vehicle was also used by the Latvian, Polish, and Ukrainian armies, as well as by the Bolsheviks during the civil war.
