The cruiser "Katori" (Japanese: 香取) was the lead ship of her class, designed in the 1930s as a training vessel and flagship. Specifically built for the training of Imperial Navy officers and crew, it was a key element of the Japanese fleet during World War II. Despite relatively light armament – four 140 mm guns, anti-aircraft artillery, and torpedo launchers – "Katori" proved invaluable for roles such as logistics support, training, and command.

This ship participated in numerous training operations and auxiliary missions until February 1944, when it was sunk by US aircraft during Operation Hailstone near the Truk base. The Aoshima model accurately recreates the original appearance of "Katori" from this period, including weaponry, superstructures, and the characteristic silhouette that distinguishes this light cruiser.

This model is dedicated to both collectors of historic warships and enthusiasts of World War II naval history. Thanks to the clear instructions and high quality of manufacture, assembling the model will be a satisfying challenge for intermediate modelers wishing to expand their fleet with a unique and rarely seen ship. It is especially recommended for maritime history fans and collectors of Japanese naval units looking for a faithfully reproduced model from an important period in the military history of the Far East.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
