USS ABSD-1 (Large Auxiliary Floating Dry Dock) was an enormous floating dry dock that played a key role in US Navy logistics during World War II. This type of structure was developed to repair damaged ships in operational areas, significantly reducing the time and distance vessels would otherwise have to travel to domestic shipyards.
