Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Gepard is one of the most recognizable European air defense systems. It was created as a result of cooperation between companies from Germany and Switzerland, utilizing the chassis of the renowned Leopard 1 tank. The Gepard is armed with two Oerlikon 35 mm automatic cannons and advanced radar equipment. The vehicle was designed to protect ground forces against aerial threats. It was commissioned by the Bundeswehr at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, and was also exported to many NATO countries. The Gepard took part in, among others, NATO Alliance exercises and operations safeguarding bases and airfields.
