Historical Information

The Scharnhorst was a legendary German battleship that entered service with the Kriegsmarine in 1939. It participated in, among others, Operation Weserübung (the invasion of Norway), raids on Atlantic convoys, and the famous “Operation Cerberus” – the dash through the English Channel together with Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen in 1942. It was sunk during the Battle of North Cape in December 1943 by British ships of the Royal Navy.
