A brief history of the SU-100Y: The SU-100Y was developed in response to the demand of the Red Army’s command in December 1939. Factory No. 185 in Leningrad was tasked with creating a vehicle based on the prototype heavy tank T-100. The new design was intended not only to serve as a self-propelled gun, but also to transport explosives, lay bridges, and evacuate damaged combat vehicles. During development, it was decided that the SU-100Y would be armed with a 130 mm B-13 naval gun capable of destroying fortifications and bunkers. The final plans were delivered to the Izhorsky Plant at the beginning of 1940, and prototype assembly began on February 1, 1940. The SU-100Y underwent its first tests on March 14; however, the end of the Winter War resulted in the cancellation of serial production—the prototype never saw combat.
