The battlecruiser HMS Hood was launched in 1918. The vessel was the pride of the Royal Navy during the interwar period, the largest warship in the world until the 1940s, and a symbol of the British fleet's power. Named in honor of Admiral Samuel Hood, it was meant to be the forerunner of a series – ultimately, only "Hood" was completed. Experience from the Battle of Jutland forced changes in armor design, but not all flaws were eliminated. "Mighty Hood" participated in numerous training cruises worldwide until its tragic end during the battle with the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941.
