Historical background of the Pfalz D.IIIa

The Pfalz D.IIIa was an improvement over the successful Pfalz D.III fighter manufactured by the Pfalz Flugzeugwerke in Germany. The aircraft entered service in 1917, with its peak usage occurring in the latter part of World War I. It was widely used by the German Imperial Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) and provided important support for frontline units, especially in battles against British, French, and American fighter aircraft. Although it did not match the legendary Fokker Dr.I or Albatros D.Va in performance, it was valued for its rugged construction, maneuverability, and reliability in harsh conditions.
The Pfalz D.IIIa remained in use until the end of the war, and even after the conflict, some examples were operated by postwar German aviation formations.

Advantages of the Valom 14423 Pfalz D.IIIa (double set) 1/144

  • Possibility to build two models – an ideal option for aviation dioramas or early fighter collections
  • Decals allow for the recreation of several authentic historical paint schemes
  • Compact model size ensures they do not take up much space while allowing for impressive displays

Who is this set for?

The Valom Pfalz D.IIIa in 1/144 scale is recommended for both intermediate modelers and those looking to develop their skills with small-scale models. It is an excellent choice for collectors of World War I aircraft and for those wishing to diversify their historical dioramas.

Scale
1/144

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
