The battleship Vittorio Veneto was one of three representatives of the modern Italian Littorio-class warships, alongside the famous Littorio, Roma, and the unfinished Impero. Construction began in 1934 at the Cantieri Riuniti dell’Adriatico shipyard in Trieste, was launched in 1937, and commissioned in August 1940. It served as the main force of the Italian navy (Regia Marina) in the Mediterranean during World War II.

The battleship was armed with nine powerful 381 mm guns, mounted in three triple turrets. Its impressive speed – reaching up to 30 knots – made it a worthy opponent for the Allied fleets. The vessel participated in numerous intense combat actions, both in convoys and sea battles, becoming a symbol of the modernization of the Italian fleet between 1940 and 1943.
