SMS Viribus Unitis was the flagship of the Austro-Hungarian Navy and one of the first ships of this class in Central Europe, built during the dreadnought revolution. The keel was laid on July 23, 1910, and the ship was launched on June 24, 1911. The vessel became famous for the unusual ceremony of being given a Latin name (the personal motto of Emperor Franz Joseph – "With United Forces") and became a symbol of the Empire’s naval power.
Historical period: SMS Viribus Unitis served during World War I; Tegetthoff-class battleships were then the core of the Austro-Hungarian fleet, although their combat activity was limited. The ship was based primarily in the port of Pola, occasionally undertaking exercises or demonstrations of force. The ultimate fate of the vessel was dramatic – Viribus Unitis was sunk on November 1, 1918, by Italian combat divers.
The book Kagero 16035 contains not only detailed visualizations of the deck, superstructures, artillery, and equipment, but also presents a detailed technical cross-section – an ideal supporting material both for modelers building ship replicas in 1/350 or 1/700 scale, as well as for reenactors and historians.
We recommend this publication to both beginner and advanced ship modelers (difficulty level in use of materials: 2/5), as well as to all enthusiasts of historical navies – especially those fascinated by the topic of Austria-Hungary and the Adriatic fleet. The publication is an excellent source of inspiration and substantive knowledge for developing your own modeling projects and historical reconstructions.
