The Fine Molds FP24 IJA Type3 Fighter Kawasaki Ki-61-I Otsu Tony in 1/72 scale is a faithfully reproduced miniature of the legendary Japanese fighter aircraft from World War II. The Kawasaki Ki-61-I “Otsu”, also known by the Allied codename "Tony", formed the backbone of the Imperial Japanese Army’s fighter forces from 1943 onward. Developed in Japan, the plane stood out for its propulsion system – as one of the few Japanese fighters, it was equipped with a liquid-cooled inline engine based on the German DB 601, which resulted in its characteristic, sleek silhouette.

The Ki-61-I Otsu participated in major battles in the Pacific, including the defense of the Kuril Islands, New Guinea, the Philippines, and the defense of Japan’s homeland in the final phase of the war. It boasted excellent performance at medium altitudes, effectively engaging American B-29 bombers and their escort fighters. The Otsu model was produced between 1943 and 1945 and saw action during one of the most challenging periods of the war in the Pacific.
