Roden 737 World War I Type B Bus Pigeon Loft 1/72 – Plastic model kit

Discover an exceptionally interesting historical model – Roden 737 World War I Type B Bus Pigeon Loft in 1/72 scale. This is a high-quality plastic model kit representing a unique version of the famous London Type B bus, adapted as a field pigeon loft during World War I.

Historical background of the B-Type bus model with pigeon loft

This model refers to the events of 1914–1918, when the British Army made wide use of innovative logistical solutions. In the early period of the conflict, the distinctive red Type B buses, known from the streets of London, were requisitioned by the British Army and transported to the Western Front. Around 900 units were adapted for different purposes – from transporting soldiers, through mobile medical points, and even as field pigeon lofts.

Carrier pigeons played an important role in wartime frontline communications, allowing messages to be sent even during radio jamming or telephone line interruptions. The B-Type buses in the “Pigeon Loft” version were fitted with special cages and observation posts for the birds’ keepers. This adaptation was used, for example, on the Western Front in France during the heavy fighting of 1916–1918.
