Historical Description and Application

The models depict two Ise and Hyuga class carriers, which were originally battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy and were converted during World War II into aircraft battleships. This conversion took place after the Battle of Midway in 1942, when Japan lost most of its conventional aircraft carriers. The Ise and Hyuga units entered service during World War I but reached the peak of their careers during World War II (1942–1945). They participated, among others, in Operation Sho-Go, which aimed to defend the Philippines in 1944.
