Tamiya 25422 Battle of Malaya Set 1/700

Tamiya 25422 Battle of Malaya Set 1/700 is an advanced set for naval history enthusiasts and modelers passionate about recreating WWII battles. This kit is a unique and richly detailed edition of plastic models in the popular collector’s scale of 1/700, enabling you to recreate one of the most famous battles of the South China Sea—the Battle of Kuantan, which took place on December 10, 1941, during the early months of the Pacific War.

  • Set contents:
    • British battleship HMS Prince of Wales (Tamiya 31615) – flagship of the Royal Navy, participating in convoying Arctic transports as well as in operations in Asia. Sunk off Kuantan after a Japanese bomber attack.
    • British battlecruiser HMS Repulse (Tamiya 31617) – a renowned battlecruiser from WWI and WWII, active in numerous naval operations.
    • Two British E-class destroyers: HMS Electra and HMS Express (Tamiya 31909) – key units protecting larger ships during actions in the Far East.
    • Australian destroyer HMAS Vampire (Tamiya 31910) – a distinguished Royal Australian Navy unit supporting the Royal Navy in the South China Sea region.
    • Two Japanese bombers Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty and G3M2 Nell – aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy, whose attack sealed the fate of the Allied ships.
  • The set also includes an eight-page illustrated brochure detailing the course of the battle and providing the historical background of the clash at Kuantan.
  • Countries using the models: United Kingdom, Australia (ships); Japan (bombers).
  • Historical period: World War II, Far East campaign, 1941.
  • The kit is made of high-quality plastic. The models require assembly and painting (glue and paints to be purchased separately). Highly accurate models with clearly rendered details, characteristic of the Tamiya Water Line Series.
  • Category: plastic model kits (warships and aircraft in 1/700 scale).
  • Step-by-step assembly instructions are included, as well as aesthetic display bases for the aircraft models.

We especially recommend this set to intermediate and advanced modelers who value historical accuracy and complex diorama projects. We rate the build difficulty at 4/5—the models require precision, but the assembly of each unit will be satisfying for both collectors and naval enthusiasts. An absolutely unique choice for WWII fans and admirers of the Tamiya brand.

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
