Historical Description

The Unimog U1300L (series 435) was developed by the German company Mercedes-Benz in the mid-1970s as a versatile off-road vehicle. From 1975 to 1993, a total of 30,726 units were produced, mainly for the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) and rescue services, including the fire brigade. The "Krankenwagen" version—a field ambulance—was particularly popular, used to evacuate the wounded from difficult terrain during military maneuvers and special missions. Period of production: Cold War and modern times. The Unimog U1300L proved reliable in numerous operations, also as part of NATO activities, and its successor (the Unimog 437) is still in use today.

Kit Details

  • Precisely reproduced details of the ambulance's body and interior
  • Clearly defined elements enabling you to paint the ambulance true to the original
  • Pure plastic – possibility for individual model arrangement (no resin or metal parts)
  • Option to build the vehicle in Bundeswehr colors or as an export version

Who is it for?

The Ace 72451 Unimog U1300L 1/72 model is recommended for intermediate modelers and military vehicle collectors. The 1/72 scale makes this kit a great addition to collections of military vehicles or Cold War-era dioramas. The build difficulty is rated 3/5 – the detailed components require care during assembly, but the clear separation of parts aids the modeling process. This is an excellent choice for enthusiasts of German military engineering and those wishing to expand their skills by assembling a vehicle with a characteristic field use.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
