Historical description of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9, also known as “Dora,” was introduced into service with the Luftwaffe in the final phase of World War II, i.e., in 1944–1945. This German fighter was a developmental version of earlier Fw 190 models, upgraded with an extended fuselage and the new Junkers Jumo 213A engine. Thanks to these changes, the D-9 stood out with excellent high-altitude performance, making it a formidable adversary for, among others, Allied escort fighters. It was mainly used by Jagdgeschwader units, fighting on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, making its combat debut during the defense of the Third Reich’s territory.
