The Role of Zimmerit in History

Zimmerit was a special protective coating applied to the armor of German armored vehicles, including self-propelled assault guns like the StuG. III Ausf. G. Its purpose was to defend against magnetic anti-tank mines used by Allied forces. Zimmerit was most commonly found on vehicles operated by German forces between the second half of 1943 and the beginning of 1945 during World War II.

This coating saw its greatest use on both the Eastern and Western fronts, for example during the battles in Normandy, in Ukraine, and during the Ardennes counteroffensive. Faithfully replicating Zimmerit greatly enhances the realism and collector's value of a finished historical model.

Product Application and Advantages

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
