Dragon 3606 M48 AVLB 1/35 – Plastic Model Kit of Armored Bridge-Laying Vehicle

The Dragon 3606 M48 AVLB model in 1/35 scale is a highly detailed plastic assembly model of the American armored bridge-laying vehicle, based on the M48 Patton tank. The AVLB (Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge) was developed in the United States and was used by the US Army and NATO allied forces from the 1960s, spanning the Cold War era to modern times. Its primary role was to provide mobility to armored units by rapidly deploying bridges on the battlefield—the vehicle could lay a self-supporting bridge 18 meters long in just 2–3 minutes.

The AVLB variant took part in, among others, Middle Eastern conflicts, the Vietnam War, and was widely used during NATO exercises and operations. As a modification of the famed M48 tank, the vehicle was equipped with a specialized hydraulic bridge deployment mechanism, while retaining the armor and mobility of the tank platform.

The Dragon 3606 model features exceptionally accurate reproduction of external details as well as deck bridge elements. The set includes parts made from high-quality plastic and photo-etched components, which make it possible to achieve realistic details such as handles, brackets, and hydraulic system elements. Precision-molded sprues allow the construction of the vehicle both in motion and in the process of deploying the bridge. Some smaller accessories may be made of metal or include photo-etched parts, enhancing the realism of the finished model. The manufacturer did not include a metal barrel in this edition since the AVLB is not equipped with main armament typical for tanks.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
