The Douglas TBD-1 Devastator is an American torpedo bomber that played a key role in the early years of World War II. It served onboard US Navy aircraft carriers, including during the famous Battle of Midway in June 1942. The Devastators, although already obsolete at the start of the conflict, took part in the most important naval operations in the Pacific. This decal set allows you to create models representing as many as seven authentic US Navy markings variants—including aircraft from: USS Lexington (May 1942), USS Enterprise (April 1942), USS Yorktown (March 1942), USS Wasp, and USS Hornet.

Techmod decals are renowned for their superb print quality, accurate color reproduction, and the finest technical markings as well as side numbers. The set includes all necessary markings to faithfully recreate authentic paint schemes of the TBD-1 Devastator—including detailed inscriptions, checkerboards, and squadron emblems for torpedo squadrons VT-2, VT-6, VT-7, VT-8, VS-71.

This product is targeted at both intermediate and advanced modelers seeking unique painting schemes for their 1:48 scale models. Using Techmod decals will bring the realism of your finished replica to a new level. Application difficulty is rated at 2/5 thanks to precisely selected, thin, and easy-to-apply elements.

We especially recommend this sheet to enthusiasts of US Navy aviation and historical modeling fans passionate about the Pacific theater campaigns from 1939 to 1942.

Scale

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
