Technical Information about the Republic P-47M Thunderbolt

The Thunderbolt is one of the icons of American aviation from World War II. The M version was a particularly fast variant, produced in limited numbers for bomber escort duties over Europe, where it was especially renowned during combat over Germany in 1945. This aircraft, in the markings of the 56th Fighter Group stationed at Boxted (United Kingdom), took part in the final air operations over the European continent before the end of the conflict.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
