The model represents the Flammpanzer 38(t) Hetzer vehicle, created by modifying standard Hetzers by equipping them with flamethrowers instead of 75 mm guns. The design is based on the chassis of the Panzer 38(t) light tank. The flamethrower version was introduced by the Wehrmacht at the very end of the war, mainly in 1944, as an attempt to increase infantry support during urban combat and in fighting against Allied strongpoints in the defense of the Third Reich’s territory. They were used exclusively on the Western Front and in urban combat, although very few were manufactured—estimated at only a dozen or so vehicles.
