Dragon 3550 MBT 70 (KPz 70) 1/35 – Plastic Model Tank Kit

Presenting the Dragon 3550 MBT 70 (KPz 70) model in the popular 1/35 scale, which faithfully replicates the experimental German-American main battle tank from the Cold War era. The MBT 70 (Main Battle Tank 70), known in Germany as the KPz 70, was an innovative project jointly developed by the USA and West Germany from 1963 to 1970, intended as the successor to the Patton and Leopard 1 tanks. Although the program was eventually canceled due to high costs and complexity, the KPz 70 went down in history as a vehicle ahead of its time in terms of technology – including hydropneumatic suspension, an automatic loading system, and advanced armament (a 152 mm gun capable of firing MGM-51 Shillelagh missile rounds).

  • Model scale: 1/35
  • Country of use: Germany (FRG) / USA – international project
  • Historical period: Cold War (1960s)
  • Material: high-quality plastic (styrene)
  • Category: plastic model kit for assembly
  • Box contents: plastic model parts (frame, hull, turret, suspension and weapon details), photo-etched parts, clear parts for optics. Glue and paints must be purchased separately.
  • Detailing: the model features precise technological detailing, composed of numerous, accurately designed elements allowing for a realistic recreation of the suspension, armament, and optics systems.
  • Assembly difficulty: 4/5 – model intended for intermediate and advanced modelers who appreciate realistic builds and challenging projects.
  • Recommendation: we recommend the Dragon 3550 MBT 70 (KPz 70) model both to collectors of unique armored vehicles and to enthusiasts of military technology history, especially this rare project.
  • This model lets you expand your collection with a vehicle that never saw active combat but had a significant influence on subsequent tank designs, such as the Leopard 2 and Abrams M1. An excellent basis for your own conversions, dioramas, or modeling competitions.

Thanks to the Dragon 3550 MBT 70 (KPz 70) model in 1/35 scale, every military history enthusiast can build and appreciate this extraordinary experimental tank design that influenced the development of modern armored vehicles. The model stands out for its detailed representation and high-quality components, providing satisfaction during assembly and painting.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
