In the years 1941–1942, as a response to the growing threat from the Allies, Germany experimented with mounting the effective Flak 8.8 cm gun on an armored chassis. This led to the creation of the Versuchflakwagen project, also known as Pz.Sfl.IVc (Panzer-Selbstfahrlafette IVc). The machine was built on an extended Panzer IV tank chassis, equipped with the massive 8.8 cm Flak 37 gun, providing versatility and fire mobility against both aerial and ground targets. Although only three prototypes were made, the vehicle represented a valuable stage in the development of German self-propelled weaponry and participated in frontline operations during 1943–1944.
